We’re doing what we can, where we can to make a difference to the impact we have on the environment and the people who live in it.
This can make things like improving sustainability quite tricky – did you know that even paper cups used in the dental chair can’t be recycled as they are classed as contaminated waste, and must be disposed of appropriately?
Globally, the healthcare sector contributes as much to the world’s greenhouse gas emissions as the aviation industry.(1)
With all of that in mind, we’re doing what we can, where we can to make a difference to the impact we have on the environment and the people who live in it. We’ve identified key areas within which we’re committed to making a difference over the coming year:

Supporting the local community
Oakwood Dental Practice are proud ambassadors of The Magic Dentist, a fantastic charity that’s tackling the UK’s children’s oral health crisis through education, driving access to care, and community collaboration.
We hope to support a local school as part of their ‘adopt a school’ programme. Read more.
Supporting vulnerable communities further afield
The Olmalaika Trust Dental Clinic in Kenya provides free dental care to anyone that needs it. It’s part of a wider trust focusing on keeping young girls safe who have endured trauma in their lives.

We’re amalgam free – a material used for fillings that has raised concerns around its environmental impact, and safety. Read more here.
We’re a proud partner of Dentaqua, providing a more environmentally friendly approach to disinfection that helps us to reduce waste and chemical usage.

We’re dedicated to reducing the amount of single use plastic we use, and increase our level of recycling at the practice with more bins and clearer guidance.
We’ve changed our energy provider to a green energy supplier, and continue to seek out suppliers who are focused on sustainability.
