We’re excited to announce that we have a new Dental Therapist joining the team in September!
Martha is new to this role but has actually been working as a Nurse with us for several years. Now, all of her hard work and dedication has paid off and she has just qualified as a Dental Therapist.
We interviewed Martha asking about her career in dentistry so far and a little about herself by way of introduction to our patients!
Tell me a little about how you got into dentistry
I always knew I wanted to work in healthcare, so after finishing my A-levels I decided to give a dental nursing apprenticeship a go. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did—and nearly ten years later, here I am, starting a new chapter in my career as a dental therapist.
How long have you been working at Oakwood Dental Practice?
I’ve been part of the Saturday team at Oakwood Dental Practice for the past three years, working alongside Barbie and Fabiha as a Dental Nurse alongside my studies at Leeds Dental School.
What would you say your favourite part of your role as Dental Therapist is?
That’s a tough one, but I’d have to say it’s getting to meet and help so many lovely patients. It’s really rewarding to know that I’m not just helping improve their oral health, but also making a difference to their overall health and wellbeing too.
What are you most looking forward to in your new role as Dental Therapist?
I’m really looking forward to this next chapter in my career. It will be challenging at times, but being able to make a real difference to patients is what makes the role of a Dental Therapist so rewarding.
It’s always great to hear more about the person behind the face mask – what is it that you’re passionate about outside of work?
Outside of work, I love getting out for long dog walks, going to the gym and trying out new places to eat—I’m a massive foodie! I also really enjoy going on holidays and exploring new countries whenever I get the chance. Next on the list is Thailand for 2026!
And finally, a note from Dr Barbie Owner and Principal Dentist at Oakwood Dental Practice who has worked closely with Martha over the last few years:
“We are so excited to welcome Martha back to Oakwood Dental, this time in the role of Dental Therapist!
Martha has worked for me over the last 3 years as a Dental Nurse and Treatment Co-ordinator whilst going back to university to undertake her degree in Dental Therapy. I value her so highly already that I did not want to miss the opportunity to have her back as a clinician, and am delighted she would like to start her working life as a clinician at my practice!
Welcome Martha!”
The team at Oakwood Dental Therapist are delighted to welcome Martha, and we’re sure out patients will feel the same.
