Dr Barbie Devall has been the owner of Oakwood Dental Practice since September 2018, and in that time has overseen an extensive redesign of both the practice building and the delivery of dental care.
Barbie graduated from Birmingham Dental School in the summer of 2001 – 23 years ag
o so is a veteran in all things teeth related!
Having always had an interest in oral surgery she underwent a year’s internship at the Norfolk and Norwich District hospital, working as Senior House Officer in the Maxillofacial Department. She loved the job so much that one year turned into 3! Here she gained skills in dealing with trauma cases, jaw fractures, soft tissue injuries (including ears and noses) as well as the complex dental extractions that were referred into the hospital.
Following this exciting time was a return to general practice, learning the ropes as a family dental practitioner first in Norwich, and then in Leeds and York following a family relocation. Her continued interest in Oral surgery led to undertaking a 3-year part time Masters Degree in Implant Dentistry at the University of Warwick – being one of only 2 women on the course at the time.
Over her years as a general practitioner with a special interest in dental implants, Barbie discovered a passion for restoring extreme cases of tooth wear and tooth loss, combining her skills as a surgeon with those of a cosmetic dentist. Her ethic has always been to provide the best of care, with the maximum function and aesthetics, for the minimal cost possible to the patient.
In 2018 she achieved her dream of owning her own dental practice, having bought Oakwood Dental Practice, and continues to bring her enthusiasm and passion for dentistry to work every day. She always says that her biggest successes are to make big changes to smiles, which are so natural that they aren’t glaringly obvious – a natural and healthy smile is what it is all about.
