Why aren’t both of my dental examinations with a Dentist?

Your Dentist and Dental Therapist work together as a team to help keep your teeth and gums in the best condition.

Having examinations by your Dentist and Dental Therapist over a 12-month period means that you’re benefiting from both areas of expertise – gums and teeth/functionality. Any areas of concern are discussed between your dental team to ensure the best course of action is taken.

The expertise and knowledge of Dental Therapists has been recognised by the General Dental Council and their scope of practice has been expanded to reflect this. Amongst other things, our Dental Therapists are able to carry out examinations to include checking for cancer, soft tissue abnormalities, tooth wear, dental decay and gum disease.

Finally, including an examination from your Dental Therapist enables us to keep the monthly membership fees as low as possible for you. Extensive Dental Therapist training and subsequent experience enables them to carry out standard dentistry to an exceptionally high standard, but at a lower cost to our patients than treatments performed by a dentist.

What is a Health Report?

Once a year, following your dental health examination with your Dental Therapist, you’ll receive a comprehensive Health Report.

The Health Report is emailed to you and includes a detailed account of your dental health including areas of concern and recommendations. As it’s a written record you can easily can refer back to it at any time should you have forgotten any of the advice given at your appointment.

It also gives you a baseline to work to, clearly showing progress and improvements that you’ve made in between visits.
